Steve Oystreck, Born in Rhein, Saskatchewan.

Played with Fiddling Red, Bill Prokopchuk and Jim Gregorash prior to "The Variety Five". Steve played violin, tsymbaly and steel guitar. son, Leonard played tsymbaly, guitar and vocals, and son Darryl played drums.  Other members with The Variety Five were: Gus Janczyszyn on accordion, Don Pidruchny on drums, alternating on guitar were Zenon and Vladimir Prystupa.  In 1979 Tim Eason joined as a guitar player.   

The Variety Five specialized in banquets, weddings and socials.  In one year the band did 29 Ukrainian weddings alone,  in addition to other dances and banquets. The band's popularity led to being booked for New Years dances 6 years in advance.
