Peter Lamb

December 10, 1908 – April 10, 1995

Peter was born at Rogers, Manitoba, to a family of eight, of whom six were musically gifted. He was the 3rd oldest in his family. He began by playing cymbaly at a very early age and played many weddings with various fiddlers. He switched to violin once his younger brother Harry began playing the cymbaly.

In the early 1950s, Peter formed the band “Peter Lamb and the Sundown Pals”. His sons Leonard and Eugene played with the group. Other musicians replaced the boys when they left home to further their education elsewhere.

In 1960, Peter’s daughter Pat, at age 12, joined the band playing accordion and his brother Harry played on this cymbaly. They performed weekly radio shows on Dauphin CKDM and made TV appearances on CKOS TV in Yorkton, SK.

They recorded 5 albums and toured Alberta and Saskatchewan doing stage shows and dances during Canada’s Centennial in 1967. Peter recorded the most popular record a recording of a genuine Manitoba Ukrainian “Country” Wedding. That record was noted as the highest selling record of old-time music. Peter’s love to entertain was a burning passion for him throughout his 60 year musical career. He was a true pioneer of Ukrainian music! A legend!

“Vichnaya Pamyat”

1908 - 1995.  Peter Lamb played violin with "Peter Lamb & The Sundown Pals".

Peter Lamb was a master of Traditional Old time Ukrainian music, which to this day cannot be duplicated. Peter started playing the dulcimer at an early age and then switched to the fiddle and became known as "The Fiddler" whose music could keep a crowd dancing to the wee hours of the morning. His love of entertaining was a burning passion for him and playing music was his life. In his 60-year music career he played at countless Weddings and it was not uncommon for Peter to play many second generation Weddings.  It gives me great pleasure to release this masterpiece in memory of my father (Peter Lamb). As a child I had to privilege of growing up in a home where music was a constant source of enjoyment. I enjoy the memories of playing accordion with dad at many Weddings, Socials, Dances and Radio programs for twelve years.
