Ron Wasilinchuk

2003 UMA Hall of Fame Inductee

1946 - 2002.  Ron Wasilinchuk played guitar with the Country Ramblers.

Ron and his sister grew up on a farm near Wroxton, Saskatchewan, when he wasn’t at school or working on the farm, Ron played his guitar for hours and hours learning new “Hit Parade” songs.  Ron had a great love for country music, but also learned Ukrainian traditional melodies he heard at church and from his harmonizing parents.  Everyone either sang or played and the family made music together.

Although Ron held positions with dealerships he eventually owned his own business but his heart never strayed from making music with his bands “Country Roads, “Ron and the Country Ramblers” and “Country Ramblers”, who were well known in Manitoba and into Saskatchewan.  His wife Patty also joined the band.  Ron and Patty converted a wood working shop into a music studio with stage and dance floor nearby to their shoal lake cottage.

Ron’s son Todd played with his band and his daughter Sharla would sing the first dance at weddings.  His stepdaughter Shelayne Novak was encouraged on the violin and drums by Ron.  Ron had the gift of patience in teaching and encouraging others to pursue their musical talents.  Ron and wife Patty’s harmony were the highlight their band performances.

Ron knew how to guarantee a fun time for all his listeners.
