Cam Chernicki

1920 - 1993

Kasmer Kasko Chernecki was born July 21st, 1929 in Pine River, MB. Cam took an early interest in music and at age 17 went to Winnipeg to live with his uncle, Peter Chernecki, the famous Pat Pender.

It was here that he learned how to read and write music. Like his uncle, Cam developed passion for harmony and started writing his own compositions. In 1950, along with his younger brother Mickey, they formed the band "Cam Chernecki and The Melody Sons”. He was very successful in fiddling competitions and achieved a fourth-place finish at the 1959 Canadian National Fiddling Championships in Shelburne ON. He also recorded two albums, and in 1961 Cam had his own radio program on CKDM Dauphin

Cam performed on CKOS-TV “Profile” numerous times and has the distinct pleasure in performing with such greats as Gordy Tapp and The Hannes Sisters.

His unique arrangements of his original composition contributed largely to his exciting career.

Cam was born not to just play. He was born to play with passion and perfection, a remarkable accomplishment considering Cam was basically self-taught.

Cam Chernecki a true Ukrainian legend.
