Peter Picklyk

1918 - 1989.

Peter Picklyk was born in Vita MB. Early in Peter’s youth his musical ambition started with learning to play the  cymbaly. He began playing the cymbaly at home weddings. Later he discovered his grandfather’s violin, which created a desire for Peter to play. His first violin was purchased by his brother for $25.

Peter took lessons to read and play music. In 1978, Peter received a

“Community Services Award” from the City of Winnipeg, and in 1989 Peter received the
“Ukrainian Annual Youth Concert and Dance Award”
in Teulon, MB. In 1990, Gardenton Festival gave an award in his memory for dedicated services.

Throughout the years of his musical career Peter recorded 7 albums, performed at many concerts, radio shows, weddings and many other gala events.

Peter entertained with many musicians and was always willing to assist others whenever they required a fiddler.

In 1962, he lovingly handcrafted his own violin.

Peter's musical skills and style developed an individual expression of his own, creating lasting memories transcending generations.

Sadly of March of 1989, his sudden passing silenced the music of Peter's violin. His music lives on in the hearts of his family, friends and many lasting admirers.
