Bill Dromereski

2003 UMA Hall of Fame Inductee

1912 - 1987.  Bill Dromereski played cymbaly.

Bill was born in Pleasant Home, Manitoba, near Teulon, MB. The fiddle became part of his life. At a very early age, he added to his talent the guitar and banjo.

Bill was self-taught musician. He played at many local dances, weddings and social throughout Manitoba.

A farm accident around 1950 severely injured his right hand, leaving him unable to continue with guitar or banjo. He refused amputation of the damaged three fingers because he would not be able to hold a violin bow properly.

In 1955, he started the “Chuck Wagon Boys” band. Ukrainian weddings were always his favorite events to play. In 1960, Bill signed a recording contract with Toronto's “Regis Record Company” and produced long play recordings as well as 45’s.

He composed music and instilled a love of music in his children. Even though his band retired, Bill continued to play at fiddling competitions throughout Manitoba

His greatest satisfaction was when he was interacting with other musicians.

Bill Dromereski a true pioneer of Ukrainian music.
