August 4, 2024 Legendary Achievement Award

Phil Wilk

I was born in Dauphin, MB on July 30th, 1946 to my parents, Philip and Katherine Wilk. My introduction to Ukrainian music and country music came early as my moms’ brothers once had a family band. As in Don Williams song “Amanda”. I got my first guitar when I was 14 and the rest is history.

I've been making music for over 50 years, playing in Ukrainian bands for weddings, anniversaries and whatever. Some of the bands were. The Trail Riders (Leo Mcsymach). Rhythm Riders,  renamed Northwind (Adam and Pat Krupa), Serenaders (Bill Kuz), Southern Country (Wally Yanchycki), The Sawchuk Sisters and bands that I formed like Cook Shack Shakers, Manitoba Ramblers and Prairie Ramblers

I played mainly in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Other places were in Alberta, USA an Ontario. As previously mentioned, I play guitar mouth organ, a little bit of mandolin an of course sing.

At the present time I entertain solo in a senior’s homes in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, 11 of them. I also pick up the odd birthday party, anniversary, reunion, and even funerals.

Thank you for considering me as a member of the “Legendary Achievers”.

Thank you, Pat Krupa for nominating me, and thank you to UMA.
