John Sawchuk
1927 - 2004.
John played Violin with The Harmony Boys.
John learned to play guitar as a young boy and at the age of 13 purchased his first violin for $5. He also played the banjo, guitar, cymbaly and harmonica.
John formed many bands including The Harmony Boys with Johnny Moroz, Mel Leskiw, Walter Toporowski and Eddy Toporowski.
He participated in the National Ukrainian Festival, coordinated concerts commemorating Taras Shevchenko and sang together with his wife, Jean for many years in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church choir.
John played at the Rhodes Hall in Ethelbert on many occasions prior to it being relocated to selo Okraina as the UMA Hall of Fame.
He passed away in 2004, leaving behind a 70-year legacy of music.
