Bill played Violin and recorded with Bill Prokopchuk and his Country Kings.
Bill Prokopchuk was born in 1925 in Rhein, Saskatchewan (approximately 35 km NE of Yorkton, SK.). He started playing the violin at a very young age and eventually became very versatile on his instrument. Bill could easily move through many different styles and genres, including: Traditional Ukrainian, Bluegrass, Country & Western, and Gypsy music.
Bill was born on the family farm south of Veregin. He started to play the violin when he was a little boy, learning different musical styles. When he grew older he played at weddings, dances, and parties with his band, The Country Kings. In 1964 he won the Western Canadian Fiddling Championship. He recorded seven record albums of Ukrainian fiddling music in several studios, including Nashville.
Bill made frequent radio and TV appearances, and toured with his band. In 1977 he joined the 25th Street House Theatre and performed across Canada in the national tour of "Paper Wheat". He later performed in "Generation and 1/2". Bill performed music for the soundtrack for the National Film Board film, "The Pedlar". In 1986 Fiddling Bill and his Country Kings, accompanied by his wife Evelyn, performed at the World's Exposition in Vancouver.
After retirement Bill was an active volunteer in entertaining seniors in the Okanagon Valley.
Bill married Evely Podmoroff in 1947. They had one daughter, Irene.
